This large oil on canvas
features an unsigned American winter landscape circa
1890. The image shows a man and dog, evidently
returning home late in the day. Part of the stretcher
is marked A. H. Abbott, patented 1887, which helps
with the dating. The artist had an excellent sense of
line, color, and mood. While we've been unable
to attribute this work, we bought it in Ohio and
suspect that the scene is northern Ohio or a similar
area.Dimensions: Size is about 37 3/4" x 32" for the frame and about 29 1/4" x 23 1/2" for the opening.
Condition: good with no tears and no restorations but craquelure. A cleaning by a professional might be a good idea. The frame does have chipping. A proper cleaning would probably bring out the color and tone. Of course, all our sales are fully guaranteed.
